Enterotomy or enterectomy surgery means making a cut along your pet’s intestine/ or removing a portion of intestine due to a foreign body obstruction, lumps or perform biopsies. Ileus is another common complication after a gastrointestinal surgery. Signs of ileus are typically noted within 24- 48 hours of surgery. Medical management using prokinetic drugs is usually successful. Other complications include dehiscence (wound breakdown), septic peritonitis which can occur in 7-16% of patients and diarrhoea.
