Splenectomy

Restoring Wellness in Pets

Removal of all or a part of your pet’s spleen. In dogs, most splenic masses are either hemangiomas or hemangiosarcomas while in cats they are usually either mast cell tumors or lymphosarcomas.

Splenectomy is indicated for removal of splenic neoplasm(cancer), rupture, torsion, infarct, abscess and hypersplenism. Animals go on to live a normal healthy lifestyle after having their spleen removed. Blood testing will be recommended by your veterinarian if your pet has any signs of anemia (blood loss ) during surgery and sometimes a blood transfusion may be recommended if there is signs of internal bleeding in your pet.
