Vet Clinic Leaf Shadow Background

Vaccinations help your dog or cat build defences against serious diseases. At AMC Boronia, we believe in prevention. It’s often less stressful, less costly, and far kinder to protect your pet ahead of time than to treat a serious illness later.

Common Vaccines for
Dogs & Cats

Core Dog Vaccines

Parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, kennel cough.

Core Cat Vaccines

Feline enteritis, cat flu, feline leukaemia.

Lifestyle Considerations

Some pets need additional vaccines depending on factors like travel or time in kennels.

Puppy & Kitten Vaccination Schedules

6–8 weeks

First vaccination, which may include the F3 vaccine and/or FIV vaccine for kittens, or the C3 vaccine for puppies.

10–12 weeks

Second vaccination, which may include the F3 vaccine and/or FIV/FeLV vaccines for kittens, or the C3 + Bronchi-Shield III vaccines for puppies.

14–16 weeks

Third vaccination, which may include the F3 vaccine and/or FIV/FeLV vaccines for kittens, or the C3 vaccine for puppies.
The exact schedule may vary depending on the brand of vaccine used, and your vet will be able to tailor a program for your pet.

Adult & Senior Pet Vaccinations

As pets grow older, their vaccination needs change. Adult dogs and cats typically require booster shots every year or two, depending on the vaccine type and the pet’s environment. Senior pets may need special considerations if they have ongoing health issues.

We’ll work with you to find the right balance so your older companion stays protected without unnecessary stress.

What to Expect at Your  Pet’s Vaccination Appointment

  1. When you arrive at AMC Boronia Vet, our friendly team will guide you through the process. We’ll take a few minutes to say hello to your pet and make them feel comfortable.
  2. The vet then performs a quick health check, listening to their heart, looking at their eyes and ears, and asking about any changes you’ve noticed at home.
  3. After confirming everything looks good, we give the vaccine in a gentle, reassuring way. We’ll also discuss any concerns or questions you might have before you leave.

Frqueuently asked
questions

Do vaccinations hurt my pet?

Most pets feel a quick pinch, then it’s over. We do everything we can to keep them relaxed and comfortable.

Is it safe to vaccinate a sick or pregnant pet?

We’re cautious about vaccinating pets with health issues or those expecting puppies or kittens. Often, we’ll wait until mum or the sick pet is stable before proceeding.

What if I miss a booster shot?

We can catch up, but delaying increases risk. It’s best to stay on schedule to maintain strong immunity.

Can my puppy go to the dog park before completing vaccines?

It’s best to wait until they’ve had all core shots. This helps prevent exposure to contagious diseases during their most vulnerable period.

Should I vaccinate my indoor cat?

Even indoor cats can be exposed to germs brought in on shoes or through open windows. Regular core vaccines keep them protected.

Do vaccinations guarantee my pet won’t get sick?

They provide strong defence but aren’t 100% foolproof. Still, if a vaccinated pet does fall ill, symptoms are often milder and easier to treat.
